Innovating for a Wiser Future with Our Stakeholders

In 1956, KOZO KEIKAKU ENGINEERING Inc. was founded by Makoto Hattori, initially as Kozo Keikaku Structural Engineering Firm. Although we started as an individual structural design office, there are three reasons why we have been able to expand our business to various fields including not only general architecture and natural environments but also telecommunications, manufacturing, and decision-making services aimed to support people and society.

The first reason is that, based on the strong desire to "drastically change the structural design of earthquake-prone Japan," we were captivated by the infinite potential of computers and were able to make a bold start in introducing them. Although Erik Stolterman(a professor at Umeå University, Sweden at the time) defined digital transformation(DX) in 2004 as "the changes that digital technology caused or influences in all aspects of human life," the computers we introduced then were far off from being utilized and had somewhat of a spiritual existence.

The second is due to the participation of staff members with various backgrounds—engineering, physical science, humanities, and social science—who both in the past and now are compelled by the potential of computers or are mutually driven to solve societal issues through computers.

Lastly, we owe it to the support of our clients and partners at universities and research institutions, who have held the same mission at heart, continuously providing us with opportunities and advice to do so. For instance, not long after our establishment, we had been entrusted with the structural design of a telephone office’s micro steel tower. Later, during the early developmental stages of the practical use of mobile phones, we were asked for advice on whether it was possible to run a mechanical simulation of the steel tower using computers, while simultaneously simulating how radio waves would transmit from the base station’s steel tower. This project triggered what would later become our radio propagation analysis consultation business. Structural engineering and radio engineering are completely different academic fields, each requiring study from the basics. However, the fact that we were offered this opportunity nonetheless, is a sign of recognition of our staff’s relentless hard work and diligent character. The days we joined hands with clients, universities, research institutions, and partner businesses have resulted in expanding our business in various fields. We are honored to have many stakeholders who praise us for our challenging spirit.

Our modern society faces numerous challenges we must address, including population decline and environmental issues such as global warming. We envision ourselves as "a leading knowledge-intensive company in 21st-century Japan," committed to addressing these social issues through the continuous application of beneficial engineering based on our knowledge. We are dedicated to creating a wiser future society by communicating with unwavering sincerity and commitment, and working earnestly with our supportive stakeholders. Thank you for your continued support.
