Message from the President

To Our Shareholders

KOZO KEIKAKU ENGINEERING Inc. (hereinafter referred to as KKE) is a group of experts that has responded to the needs of the times, expanding its business horizons and delivering new value. Our expertise extends beyond structures, from the encompassing natural environment, to society, businesses, and communities which are composed of the people living within them. KKE makes it its mission to solve a wide breadth of social issues, and take pride in having proficient collaborative professionals to tackle such issues.

Japan has experienced a variety of natural disasters.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake, which was one of the most destructive earthquakes in Japan’s history in terms of the extent of damage inflicted by the disaster. In addition, it has been 12 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake and 7 years since the Kumamoto Earthquake. People’s memory and interest in these seismic disasters have waned, and there are fewer opportunities to reflect on them. However, it is essential to continue making preparations for urgent anticipated seismic events, such as earthquakes in the Nankai trough or directly under Tokyo. Furthermore, the damage from natural disasters such as river flooding, landslides, and storm surges has become more severe due to an increase in the intensity and frequency of heavy rainfall and typhoons associated with global warming in recent years. Measures to address these types of storm and flood damage have also become an urgent priority. The use of digital technology and related measures is crucial to efforts to minimize the damage caused by these natural disasters to human lives and the economy, as well as efforts to achieve restoration and recovery from such disasters as early as possible. Advances in new technologies that could affect how society functions, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and big data are expanding the possibilities for generating innovative solutions to these issues.

Additionally, society as a whole has shown a growing interest in sustainability, such as the SDGs and ESG management. The approach of working to address various social issues and thereby increasing corporate value has transformed the behavior of many companies. It has created a highly favorable environment for companies to address social issues more actively.

As a true “Professional Design & Engineering Firm”, KKE has continuously bridged the gap between academia, research institutions, and the industrial world. Collaborating at corporal, national, and municipal levels, we are committed to engaging in business endeavors that involve social issues through the application of academic knowledge. KKE has contributed to the solution of social issues by providing customers with the means to address the issues they face, such as safe structural design and seismic impact assessments on structures, assessments of wind and flooding conditions and river water-level prediction for measures to address typhoon and significant heavy rain, and simulation-based support for developing evacuation plans for residents during natural disasters.

These activities are underpinned by the philosophy of our Founder Dr. Makoto Hattori, who believed that “The greatest luxury in life is to work as hard as you can for others, and to take pleasure in seeing their delight with your work unbeknownst to them.” KKE is supported by not just its long history since its founding, and its extensive track record and experience, but also by every KKE member who gathers here to work. Looking ahead, as indicated by our Founder’s philosophy, each KKE member will achieve personal growth so that we can address and contribute to the solution of ever-changing social issues. By doing so, we will remain a group of true professionals capable of providing beneficial value to society.

We sincerely hope to meet your expectations and appreciate your continued support.

KOZO KEIKAKU ENGINEERING Inc. (hereinafter referred to as KKE) is an organization that empowers clients through engineering solutions with information technology. We believe that there are two types of engineering (technology): Engineering Knowledge cultivated during the Industrial Revolution (industrialization) that flourished from the late 18th century, and information technology that emerged in the late 20th century. KKE provides valuable contributions to society through the successful integration of these two types of technology.

As a knowledge-intensive company that strives to value contribution to society by utilizing knowledge and wisdom to solve clients’ issues, the engagement and accomplishments of talented collaborative professionals are the backbone of the business. Ever since its humble beginnings as a structural design office in June 1956, our company has placed great emphasis on operating more as a firm of experts than a conventional company. We have dedicated to creating value in the individuals within the firm and the power of technology that transforms talents and abilities of such individuals. Today, in addition to traditional engineering consulting (EC) for relative projects, a new business model for product service (PS) of a worldwide cloud service that emerged about ten years ago is progressing smoothly.

Among the four aspects explored in the textbook Introduction to Business Management (Iwanami Shoten, Publishers , April 2021), written by Professor Akira Takeishi, a highly esteemed scholar in the field of business and emeritus professor at Kyoto University as well as current professor at Gakushuin University, we consider that the concept of “Talented Human Activities,” or creating such a working environment is the foremost priority in business management. At this “BA: Working Environment”, we expect each KKE member to engage with internal and external stakeholders while reflecting on their respective missions. Of course, the other three aspects recognized by Professor Takeishi—“Added Value for society,” “Social Responsibility,” and “Capital Usage”— are of equal importance. We continue to manage our business on the basis of these aspects, by learning evolving technologies to secure good contracts and be valued by clients (“Added Value for society”), shouldering social responsibility as a company (“Social Responsibility”), and securing working capital during financially challenging times and making investments for maintaining partnership (“Capital Usage”).

By the time of KKE’s 100th anniversary in 2056, we are determined to pursue our mission as a 21st century knowledge-intensive company that understands both products and services, to provide reliable engineering consulting services and public cloud services by incorporating advancements in information technology built upon a solid foundation of engineering technology. Human capital management is fundamental for this purpose. We strongly believe that an organization characterized by independence, diversity, flexibility, and transparency will become Japan’s leading knowledge-intensive company.
