Our company has independently developed iGRAF, a granular and multi-phase flow simulation software by adopting the physical model proposed by Associate Professor Mikio Sakai from the University of Tokyo.

Solution Overview

Our company has independently developed iGRAF, a granular and multi-phase flow simulation software by adopting the physical model proposed by Associate Professor Mikio Sakai from the University of Tokyo.

Conventionally, it was difficult to simulate granular flow for devices with complicated shapes. Even in the state-of-the-art research fields, it took much time and effort to simulate three-phase flows of powder, liquid and gas. iGRAF, however, will now make these simulations possible.

The preprocessor for iGRAF is SOLIDWORKS and it is devised to coordinate the process of design and analysis smoothly.

Simulation with iGRAF can be applied to the following fields as shown below.

 

Perform a Large-scale Granular flow simulation Just by 1 Workstation!

iGRAF is integrated with a DEM Coarse-Grained Model that replaces groups of small powders with large powders, and a multi-core parallel calculation technology for powder and fluid, which makes it possible to simulate 100 million particles by only using one workstation.

No More Need to Generate Meshes for Rigid Bodies and Fluids!

Signed Distance Function (SDF) is adopted for modeling the wall for powders. With SDF, the system is able to recognize rigid bodies without the use of meshes, thus users only have to input the resolution for the rigid bodies.

For modeling the wall for fluids, Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) is adopted. Since IBM can reproduce the shape of a rigid body using a uniform orthogonal mesh, there is no need to specify the mesh size or shape. Users only have to enter the grid size for the respective axis in the simulation area.

Simple User Interface Increases the Efficiency of Analysis Studies!

Conventionally, only specialists were able to perform granular flow simulation. With iGRAF, analysis conditions can be set on SOLIDWORKS, which makes the steps for analysis simple. With some experience with the software, even designers can perform advanced granular flow simulation.

 

 

A free software "Paraview" is used as the post-processor. Using Paraview, users can easily view the simulation results such as the velocity distribution of powder particles, velocity contour diagram of the fluid and the velocity vector diagram. In addition, the analysis videos can be exported as an avi file.
